REGION DESCRIPTION
Champagne & Picardy Soaring Cathedrals tower over a gentle, undulating land which still carries the imprint of great battles of the past. The countryside is patched with woodland and threaded by rivers, while the effervescence of Champagne, its beautiful old towns and its well travelled wine route fills the visitor with joy.
Normandy With lush creamy meadows, fine cider, renowned cheeses, the upmarket glamour of Deauville and the exceptional beauty of Honfleur, Normandy is simply gorgeous. Add to it the D-Day beaches, the Bayeux tapestry, a legacy of Impressionist artists and some of the best food in France. What more could you want?
Brittany This is a region of spectacular beaches, quiet bays and bustling ports while, in its wooded interior, historic towns and massive megaliths await you. Wreathed in Celtic Legend, the character and landscapes are remarkably similar to Cornwall, but with an unmistakeable Gallic twist.
Loire Valley Loire is a landscape of sleeping horizons and vast skyscapes, where chateaux are silhouetted against blue skies, vineyards, and wheat fields. With its pure French accent, its temperate climate and its historic towns and wine villages, Loire sums up refined French living.
Burgundy France's oldest province, Burgundy is best described as 'opulent'. Renowned above all for its wine and its religious legacy, in Burgundy you will also find rustic hilltop villages, civilised towns and a refined and generous cuisine ; all part of what the French call - l'art de vivre, the art of living.
Alsace This pretty little region is quite unlike any other in France. Thickly forested landscapes and the drama of the Vosges Mountains contrast with the quaint, almost picture book villages, their half timbered houses draped in bright red geraniums.
Vendee & Charente With over 200 sun-drenched days a year, there's plenty of opportunity to take advantage of the beautiful expanses of white sand that sweep down this coast. Inland you will find the watery labyrinth that is the Marais Poitevin and, should you feel so inclined, plenty of opportunity for degustation in brandy country around Cognac.
South West Coasts Proudly boasting Europe's highest sand dune, the Dune du Pilat, this sun-drenched region is a magnet for sun-worshippers and oenophiles. When you have had your fill of the wide, pine fringed Atlantic beaches, head inland to the cosmopolitan city of Bordeaux and the precious vineyards that surround it.
Dordogne and Lot Honey-hued villages, ancient castles and prehistoric caves pepper the rolling green countryside of the Dordogne valley. Lush and lazy, Dordogne contrasts with the more rugged and dramatic countryside of the Lot Valley and the Pyrenees to the south.
Languedoc-Roussillon One of France's most closely guarded secrets, this is the less visited Mediterranean region. The climate is perfect, the beaches are beautiful, the landscapes are stunning and the cities are fascinating. This is a region with its feet in France and its heart in Spain.
Provence Here are lavender fields and olive groves - rich offerings for the senses - unspoiled villages perches (hill villages), Roman monuments and landscapes painted by Cezanne. The winding road down to the coast hugs the cliff, the hedgerows are a mass of wild flowers; far below, the sea is an inky blue. Where else but Provence?
Cote d'Azur Strung along the Mediterranean coast of France is a glittering necklace of exotic towns redolent of glamour and luxury. Sun-drenched beaches, beautiful people, mega-yachts; this is, certainly, the playground of the rich and famous. Yet it has a quieter side inland where thyme-scented hills and tiny villages await you.
Lakes & Mountains Mont Blanc is the crowning glory of this stunning mountainous landscape, but this is also a region of green and fertile valleys and gentle, flower cloaked pastures, among which snuggle pretty villages. Here is a region ideal for all outdoor enthusiasts.
