Coolnagurrane Cottage

 

Skibbereen, Co. Cork.

In an idyllic setting, 3miles from Skibbereen town, looking out on to acres of open countryside, this simple, single-storey stone cottage makes a delightful rural retreat. With its white-washed walls, slate floors and open fire, it is cosy and comfortable, and enjoys its own cottage garden. Located 2miles from the main road, it makes a good base for exploring the beautiful West Cork region, which boasts some of the most spectacular coastline in the country around the Mizen Head, Sheep's Head and Beara peninsulas. Attractive coastal villages, such as Glandore and Castletownsend only a few miles away. Skibbereen offers many fine shops, pubs and restaurants. Fishing, riding and tennis locally. Sailing 5miles. 2 Lennons Lodge Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow.

Surrounded by beautiful mature parkland, the three cottages (Listed Irish Heritage Buildings) on the Fortgranite Estate enjoy a wonderfully peaceful setting, with views of the Wicklow mountains. Ideal for a relaxing country break at any time of the year, with free trout fishing within walking distance, and a golf course just three miles away. Baltinglass boasts abbey ruins and a large hill fort with a Bronze Age cairn. The Curragh and Punchestown racecourses are both within 20 miles, and there are some superb gardens to visit. Just an hour's drive away, through lovely hill country, are some of the best beaches on the East coast, especially at Brittas Bay. Tennis and riding 3 miles. Pub 3 miles. Set into the original stone entrance gates of Fortgranite Estate, this gatelodge is a quaint cosy little property for two. Furnished in cottage style the lodge has some lovely features, windows set deeply into the walls and the kitchen is built into one of the gate turrets.

4 The Cottage Cliffony, Nr Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo.

This charming traditional thatched cottage has been lovingly restored by its owner, blending antique charm and a cosy turf fire with modern comforts. It forms an ideal base to get away from it all, with a large enclosed garden and great views over the harbour and the distant Benbulben mountains. Good road connections ensure easy access to activities, with boat trips, diving, horse riding, sailing, sea angling and five golf courses, as well as several fantastic stretches of sandy beach all close by. Yeats Visitor Centre and a variety of theatres in Sligo (10 miles). Traditional pubs and seafood restaurants locally.

Set in the centre of an award-winning village, these traditional detached properties form part of a charming collection of cottages which stand on the edge of the Atlantic, in an area renowned for its warm hospitality, spectacular scenery and wide range of outdoor pursuits. Traditional pubs offer live music and dancing, and fine restaurants serve locally caught seafood dishes. Just ½mile away lies a sweeping sandy beach, along which to stroll or ride, and the many activities on offer locally include fishing, mountain climbing, shooting, walking, deep sea fishing and scuba diving. Swimming, tennis, golf and riding are available at a special rate from the nearby hotel. Nearest pub 20yards.

With its own coral strand and shoreline, spectacular views of Kenmare Bay and 100-acre grounds with landscaped garden, this family house has been refurbished to provide a charming holiday home. Reached via a steep lane, it offers a wonderful base for exploring the Ring of Kerry. Golf and riding locally, with free fishing from the shore and deep sea fishing (at cost) easily arranged.
